Director Today | November 2021 Climate Change is the defining issue of our time and we are at a defining moment. ~ António Guterres, UN Secretary-GeneralGlobal temperatures are rising faster than we had imagined, causing extreme weather conditions with fatal consequences. Climate change has been the result of society pursuing a path of development, which was not sustainable. The 'Paris Agreement' of December 2015 was a clarion call, and a true coalition of the 'willing'. In the 'COP21 Agreement' signed on 12 December, 2015, 196 countries agreed to take action to limit the world's carbon emission levels, and thus not permit rise in temperature beyond 1.5 to 2 degree centigrade by the end of this century. The largest emitters of carbon-dioxide in the world, include China (10,357 million metric tonnes/yr), USA (5,414 million tonnes/year),and India (2,272 million metric tonnes/year). India accounts for a little more than 4% of the global emissions. ![]() ![]() |
